A word of your choice that you wear on your nametag at a singles' event.
What does my whimword do for me?
At the event, it's a conversation starter. After the event, it lets you reconnect with people you met.
How do I reconnect with someone I met at a Whimwords event?
Login to whimwords.com and look for their whimword, then click the link next to their whimword to swap email addresses.
If I try to reconnect with someone through whimwords.com, when will they find out that I'm interested?
They'll find out when they try to reconnect with you. If they don't try to reconnect, they won't find out.
Can I see a list of all the people who have tried to reconnect with me?
No, Whimwords only reveals interest when it's mutual -- once both people have tried to reconnect.
After a Whimwords event, how much time do I have to reconnect with guests through whimwords.com?
You have a full week, but you should express your interest as soon as possible, preferably within a day after the event.
How long do I keep my whimword?
Your whimword and the associated account on whimwords.com remain active for one week after the event.
How do I prepare to attend a whimwords event?
RSVP on whimwords.com and reserve your whimword, then show up! Nametags will be provided at the event.
If I already confirmed my attendance through Facebook, Evite, Meetup, or an email to the host, do I still have to RSVP on whimwords.com?
Yes -- that's currently the only way to reserve your whimword and gain access to the site.
I tried to reconnect with someone but whimwords.com didn't show me their email address -- what should I do?
We're waiting for the other person to express interest. Check your account later, look for their whimword, and see if their address has appeared.
I have a word in mind, how do I reserve it?
Fill out the RSVP form on whimwords.com and specify your word. Remember, the word isn't yours until you RSVP.
Why are they called whimwords?
Whimwords help people strike up conversations on a whim. And, because a whimword is temporary, you're free to be whimsical in how you choose yours.
How do I pick an interesting whimword?
Your whimword should say something about you and serve as a starting point for the sort of conversations you'd like to have. Think about these options: the name of a hobby; one of your best qualities;
something you find funny or interesting; your favorite flavor, aroma, color, etc.; something you're feeling or thinking right now; name of a fictional character you admire; anything you enjoy talking about.
What is allowable as a whimword?
Up to 20 letters and numbers. No punctuation or spaces.
Are whimwords case-sensitive?
If you use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters in your whimword, we remember that for display purposes. But, if you reserve "abc," no one else can reserve
"ABC" or another variation.
How many whimwords can I have?
One for each event that you attend.
Can I use the same whimword at multiple events?
Yes, but you need to reserve it separately for each event.
Do I wear my whimword along with my name or instead of it?
Usually people wear their whimword instead of their name, but it's permissible to reserve your name as your whimword.
Can two people have the same whimword?
Not if they are attending the same event.
What does it cost to use the Whimwords system?
It's free to use the whimwords.com website but some events have covers.
Is the Whimwords system for a particular kind of person?
Whimwords is for all singles whether outgoing, shy, or somewhere in between. Whimwords is great for word lovers,
but you don't need to be a vocab buff to enjoy using the system -- pick a word that's fun and simple. There's a word that suits everyone!
I never have trouble striking up conversations, so why should I wear a whimword?
Whether you're outgoing or shy, your whimword is a fun thing to talk about. If you're outgoing, it helps people who are less outgoing approach you.
And it helps you reconnect with people without needing to swap contact information on the spot.
I don't mind giving out my contact information, so why should I wear a whimword?
It's a conversation starter that helps you meet people at the event. And, even if you don't mind
giving out your contact information on the spot, sometimes the oppportunity doesn't arise.
Is it OK to swap contact info with someone directly while we're at the event, or do I have to use Whimwords for that?
This is up to the event host. Whimwords takes away the pressure to swap info on the spot, but we don't dictate whether guests can still swap info directly.
What information does whimwords.com exchange between people who have a mutual interest in reconnecting?
Only their email addresses.
How does whimwords.com use my personal information?
Your email address is visible to the host of your event, and to guests who you match with. We may also use your address
to contact you about our service. Other than these cases, your address is never shared. We do not share information with any other organizations.
Who can find out what whimword I used at an event?
Your whimword is only visible to others who have RSVP'd for the event. They see your whimword in a list, but they won't know who that whimword belongs to unless they
met you at the event and/or matched with you in the system.
Who started whimwords?
Whimwords.com is a grass-roots startup based in Boston MA, founded by software engineer Rudi Seitz and friends.
What's the mission of Whimwords as a company?
To make the world a friendlier place for singles.
What's the Whimwords motto?
"From Words To Conversation"
Is whimwords.com more for serious dating or casual encounters?
The tone of a Whimwords event is set by the host and the guests. Whimwords.com helps guests reconnect when there's mutual interest, but
we don't tell people what kind of connections to seek.
